I-595 Corridor Improvements
Broward County, FL
Curtis + Rogers developed an Aesthetics and Landscape Master Plan for the corridor and provided landscape construction documents. As the corridor connects the Everglades in the west to the ocean in the east, we created a concept of Sawgrass to Seagrass. This theme emphasizes that the roadway corridor traverses several typical South Florida ecosystems traveling west to east from the Everglades through uplands to the coast. Three areas are highlighted beginning with the Everglades in the west (Sawgrass & Herons), continuing east through Land and higher ground (Saw Palmetto & Panthers), and eventually reaching the Ocean and coastal areas (Ocean & Turtles). The Saw Palmetto and Panther design has been adopted by FDOT and is now being widely used on other roadways in South Florida.
