Church by the Sea - Bay Harbor Islands, FL

Curtis + Rogers collaborated with Zyscovich Architects to design a new home for the Church by the Sea, who was displaced by the expansion of the Bal Harbour Shops.  Its new home is on Kane Concourse, downtown to Bay Harbor Islands. Central to the project was an outdoor roof deck on the third floor, which is divided into adult functions and Children’s functions.  The Adult side is a flexible space that includes intimate seating spaces as well as an open space that can be used for small wedding ceremonies and cocktail receptions.  The building has two additional green spaces on the upper floors: One opens out onto a trellised space outside of the sanctuary, the other is on the rooftop.  The original design called for a labyrinth and a decorative wall on the roof deck as well as a pickleball court in the surface parking lot – unfortunately these items did not make it into the final design.
