South Miami Park

Located in the City of South Miami, SoMi park improvements provides open space and elements for play and exercise to a diverse local community, serving neighborhood residents and students from David Fairchild Elementary School. Before the park’s design, the site was an underutilized green space with limited access and a dilapidated pool bordered by a deteriorating fence. C+R Design studio crafted a vision that incorporates accessibility for all, a variety of recreational programs that were ultimately influenced by its impressive tree canopy. The park’s design preserves the existing native trees and activates the space with recreational programs, a sinuous path connecting the east and west sides, and native planting for additional shade and comfort. While modest, the design provides much needed space for intergenerational exchange and opportunities for exercise and play, a hidden gem tucked away within the city.
