Pine Crest School

Fort Lauderdale, FL

Pine Crest School is one of the first private schools to develop a LEED GOLD facility. Curtis + Rogers participated in the renovation of the Boca Raton campus through the replacement of the main administration building and a creation of a new, redefined campus. The innovative design included the creation of new exterior learning spaces as well as the enhancement of natural areas for exploration and interaction. The existing 22-acre site maintains native species and enhances a conservation buffer at its north and east sides.  Specific green components that where integrated included cisterns for irrigation, photovoltaic panels, children’s learning gardens, and enhancement of natural areas.

Curtis + Rogers worked with the design team in creating a series of integrated exterior spaces to provide learning and interactive opportunities for individualized or group learning.  These series of socially amenable spaces composed of loggias, courtyards, quadrangles provide shade and flexible seating for maximum usage.

The existing landscape was evaluated and preserved to the maximum extent possible. New landscape focused on a native/xeriscape palette intended to provide shade, and a provide annual accents of seasonal flowering species.
