Don Quijote Park
Hialeah, FL
Don Quijote Plaza is an open public space that features a Don Quijote Sculpture called “Ode to Freedom” that represents the people and city of Hialeah. Our design and concept were inspired by the artistic and visual lore of Don Quijote and the setting that embodies the imagery of the story. The image of Don Quijote set amidst an open landscape of windmills, grasses, and open sky further drove that vision which melded with the form and function of the site. The notion of the iconic windmills turning and radiating from a central point guide a place with a central democratic and flowing open space that draws users in and out from strategic access points that allow for uninterrupted directional access from the surrounding crosswalk, sidewalk, and hotel. The central point, that features the sculpture, offers a focal point that allows the park to revolve around it with options to stroll, sit, or engage the open lawn. Ultimately, the park will provide a rich and unique setting for passersby, locals, and those visiting the City all the while embossing the image of the City.
